All Publisher information between 1/1/2011 and 5/20/2011

Below are some statistics about all the genres being monitored, it is grouped into ALL the books, the books that only had 1 publisher during the timeframe, and the books listed as being published by Amazon.



It is interesting that the small publishers & the books published without listing a publisher dominate the numbers for all the genres.   Eventually I will try and get a listing of the Agency 6 imprints so that we can compare them.  Spot checking some of the individual genre publishing reports, I think that they average slightly higher, but still fall under 9.99 for most books.  Where they do seem to be higher is the newer, higher value releases, which makes since given their strategy of extracting the most revenue from books as they can.

The Mandel Files: Volume 1	Peter F. Hamilton,	This is a good deal, two early novels by Peter Hamilton combined.
The Moon Maze Game	Larry Niven,Steven Barnes,	I enjoyed the earlier Dream Park novels, and this looks like a futuristic continuation of these stories. I'll probably buy it even though I've been less impressed with Larry Niven's recent novels.

The Children of the Sky	Vernor Vinge,	Long anticipated sequal to the wonderful A Fire upon the Deep

Spell Bound	Kelley Armstrong,	I enjoy Kelley Amrstrong's books. This looks to be another urban fantasy.. It looks like this one is a direct sequal to Waking the Witch
The Book of Dzur	Steven Brust,	You can't go wrong with Brust.  Two of his Vlad books in one volume.
Ghost Story: A Novel of the Dresden Files	Jim Butcher,	Highly anticipated, high quality Urban Fantasy series. Don't start here, some of the earlier books can standalone, this one can not.
Circle of Enemies: A Twenty Palaces Novel	Harry Connolly,	I enjoyed the twenty Palaces series, it is an urban fantasy, but there is still some mystery left, the protaganist is mostly an outsider.
Out of the Waters	David Drake,	David drake is a good writer.
Cold Fire	Kate Elliott,	Kate Elliott provides quality fantasy, this one seems to be a sequal to Cold Magic, which I haven't read yet..
American Gods: The Tenth Anniversary Edition: A Novel	Neil Gaiman,	This is actually already available in another edition, I'm not sure of the difference between the two.
For Heaven's Eyes Only: A Secret Histories Novel	Simon R. Green,	Enjoyable fluff
The Snow Queen's Shadow	Jim C. Hines,	Jim Hine's 'Charlies Angels meets fantasy princesses' series is very fun. I'm looking forward to this novel.
The Kingdom of Gods	N. K. Jemison,	The third book in high profile series. The first book is up for lots of awards.
Lord of Souls: An Elder Scrolls Novel	Greg Keyes,	It's a game tie-in, which I normally wouldn't recommend, however Iike Greg Keyes.
A Dance with Dragons: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book Five	George R.R. Martin,	This is probably more anticipated than The Wise Man's Fear years in the making, and with a hit HBO series, this is sure to be a massive bestseller.
Kitty's Greatest Hits	Carrie Vaughn,	Another Kitty book.
Kitty's Big Trouble	Carrie Vaughn,	The Kitty series is a good urban fantasy series.

Science Fiction Preorders June 28: Star Wars

June 28th is a special day in ebook releases. On this day Lucas Arts books & Spectra & Del Rey are releasing ALL Star Wars books that haven't already been released as ebooks. Two Tales of Korval (Adventures in the Liaden Universe ®)	Sharon Lee,Steve Miller,	Sharon Lee and Steve Miller have put many of their short stories/novelletes online.
Jack the Bodiless	Julian May,	The first book of her
The A.I. War, Book One: The Big Boost (Tales of the Continuing Time)	Daniel Keys Moran,	A long overdue continuation of his Continuing time Stories. Well worth reading if you are fan, otherwise read his other novel first.
The Long Run (Tales of the Continuing Time)	Daniel Keys Moran,	The second in Daniel Keys Moran's continuing time series and in my opinion and others, it is the best. It is a good place to start if you want to try it out. It is one long, very entertaining chase scene.
The Mote in God's Eye	Larry Niven,Jerry Pournelle,	A very classic science fiction novel. Well worth reading if you haven't read it.

Late Eclipses: An October Daye Novel	Seanan McGuire,	Don't read this first, but the latest in an urban fantasy series by Campbell award winner Seanan McGuire.
Kings of the North	Elizabeth Moon,	The latest in her 'Paks' series, it focuses on other characters. Still quite worthwhile.
Memory	Linda Nagata,	I read this based on a link from James Nicholl. I loved it, although it is more science fiction than fantasy, but it feels like fantasy.
The Wise Man's Fear: The Kingkiller Chronicle: Day Two	Patrick Rothfuss,	The biggest release of the year so far. Read The Name of the Wind first, and then this book.
The Dracula Tape (Saberhagen's Dracula Series)	Fred Saberhagen,	One of the earliest urban fantasies, long before the genre became as popular as it is today.
The First Book of Swords (Saberhagen's Swords)	Fred Saberhagen,	I'm delighted to see these reprinted as eBooks. The first three books are some of my favorite fantasy novels.
Misplaced Legion	Harry Turtledove,	The first in a 'Roman Legion' meets Byzantium with magic series. One of Turtledove's best novels IMO.

About the New Ebook Blog

This blog is dedicated to providing information about new books published on the Amazon Kindle platform in a variety of genres.   Currently I find the Amazon interface is great for finding popular new releases, and recommendations, however it is actually difficult to get a quick list of all new books released within a certain time period.

The purpose of this blog is to provide a quick and easy list, similar to how Fictionwise used to do it when they had a wide selection of ebooks.  Ever since the Agency model, Fictionwise has stopped carrying the books I'm interested in, but the way they notified me of new released was helpful.

The Kindle released on Amazon are undergoing a massive release cycle, in addition to current new released from major publishers, and self published books, many established authors are taking advantage of Amazon's services to publish backlist books, and books they had difficulty selling to a major publisher.  However these books are hard to find since they don't show up in the best seller list.  In addition various companies are taking public domain books and releasing them for a fee, even though you could find them on the internet at Project Gutenburg for free. 

I'm attempting to weed out obvious public domain books, especially in Science Fiction & Fantasy, and
also making it possible to quickly scan to see what new books are released in several genres:

• Science Fiction
• Fantasy
• Romance
• Children's Books
• Horror
• Mystery & Thriller

The selection of books into these genres is done by Amazon.  I'm providing moderate curration on Science Fiction & Fantasy, and just reporting the books on the other genres.

The prices reported were accurate at the time of querying the Amazon Database.  However prices & availability are subject to change.  The main purpose of this blog is provide a quick and easy way to scan for Kindle books of interest.

If you use eReaders other than Kindle, the books might be available at your vendor, however since Amazon dominates the ebook market, most publishers and authors are placing their books on Amazon first, and then other services.  


Eventually I also intend to monitor for price drops and report those when they occur.
